What is Twitter? Is it really that much different than Facebook, or is it just a clever ruse from its creators to keep you from spending less face-time with our friends and family? Approximately 5 out of 7 people from the ages of 18 to 40 have a Facebook, myspace, and Twitter page. I am guessing about this statistic of course, but I would not be surprised if I was extremely close.
I will freely admit that I have a Facebook and myspace page, but I refuse to give in and create a Twitter page. I already speak to most of friends through these devices and no longer make calls of send letters. I believe that in a short period of time, we will no longer speak at all to anyone, there will be some kind of advancement with the programs we already have or some new one, that allows us to communicate even with the person sitting next to use without speaking. Yes, i know is Texting which allows us to do this already with a small electronic, but is still conceive by most people in society to be poor etiquette to use at a dinner table or a party, etc. But 10 or 20 years from now that could change.
Now I can't speak of one side and not mention the other, I agree that it can be a great resource and a fun device to use, IF it is used in moderation. There is an old Chinese proverb that says, "All Things in Moderation", so we have to contain ourselves and not get sucked up into it all. But, like I said it is a great resource to have, for instance you want to find a long lost friend, or a friend of a friend, or you want to share pictures, views, or even experiences. There are definitely many great qualities about these programs, but again I say, "in moderation!!"
Now I am not going to end this by saying what I think instead I will ask you, are these devices such as Facebook, Twitter, and myspace, all the same and maybe a little excessive, or are they just different ways to communicate and is just a great technological advance that we should all embrace? You be the judge.
